The ladies learn a craft

Today I hosted 2 sessions of classes for the ladies of the Brandeis Womens' Club.

I offer to do this once, sometimes twice, a year for this terrific group.These ladies are NOT crafters...this was like joining the foreign legion to most of them !

They signed up to take the class (es) because they were dying to see what Melt Art was all about and, because the ladies from last years group raved and carried on so much they had to know what all the fuss was about.They were so happy they came ! They had never done anything like this before and they made some really beautiful pieces. Non crafters are very open minded. Like kids !

Proving once again that the Melting Pot is not intimidating and anyone can learn.

 

These were made using the super easy...anyone can do it.... Cookie Cutter technique

1. Grease the inside of the cookie cutter using a clear embossing ink (from a refill bottle)

 

2. Melt Clear UTEE
 

3. Place cookie cutter over a photocopy image or one from a magazine.

4. Pour UTEE into cookie cutter (approx 1/4")

5. Allow the UTEE to completely solidify (give it about 2-3 minutes) then lift up the cookie cutter. It will come right up.

6. Peel back the UTEE from the photocopy but try to actually leave the backing paper on the UTEE so the design stays.

 

7. Wipe off embossing ink from around sides of UTEE. Try not to put fingermarks on top of UTEE.

7. Attach a jewelry bale with super glue.

 

TIP: if UTEE gets cloudy or dull looking wand a heat gun over the surface to put the shine back on.

 

Just don't overheat the surface or you'll re-melt.
 

then we moved on to Faux Soldering and some projects involving Memory Frames. Lastly...the favorite of every class...the donut necklaces....

1.  I order my mini donut pans from www.cooking.com . They are teflon coated and don't require any release for the UTEE.
2. Fill melting pot with a variety of UTEE colors, side by side, cover, don't stir and don't be afraid.
3. These colors look completely magnificent once they've melted and blended with one another. Mix metallics wth the new Brightz...stunning combos.
   

4. Once everything melts do a few strokes using the Kool Toolz Spatula to 'marble' the UTEE, then pour in a circular motion into the donut pan filling to almost the top. Here you are looking at what will become the back of the donut.

 

Once the UTEE cools completely you can pop out the donuts !

The free form patterns the UTEE creates always leave me speechless. No two are ever alike. These look like wood.

I think it left the Brandeis ladies speechless too! next year I'm gonna teach them wax !

Used Melt Pot for first tme last week. Really enjoyed the magic... Need to watch your video to get tips on how to use. Tried doing key shapes from mould n pour, took me ages to get them to look decent but really enjoyed myself in the process. Collecting my own Melt Pot next Weds & have got to try making beads & other bits of wearable art so can make some xmas pressies this year...
It's all so exciting & magical watching the transformations, it's nearly as good as watching embossing for the first time, how sad am i....

The Ladies look like they had a ball. Suze, please can you tell us when you are next visiting the UK so can look forward to seeing you on TV? Do you think you will be appearing on QVC or Create & Craft, (the channel who lets their guests enjoy themselves while actually being able to craft) am hoping for news in your blog soon.
