We were told the history of the Jews, allowed to see the Torah, (they had five all covered in velvet and with silver 'plaques' on them), also taken downstairs to the Mikvah. This is an Orthodox Synagogue where the women have to sit upstairs and the men downstairs

I live near to Leicester in the centre of England, UK. Today I visited the Synagogue ( Shul ? ) in the town. It was built in the 1890's and today they had an 'open day' . In a side room there were 3 wooden boards high up on the wall, showing lists of people who had made 'donations' over the years. There were several

I have always had an interest as when young I lived quite nearby and had many friends who were Jews. (Please forgive any incorrect terms or spellings.)
