AND LAUGHS...LAUGHS...LAUGHS

like you wouldn't believe

so...there we were...just minding our business...shopping our little hearts out, when we were 'accosted' by this guy selling makeup!!

Next thing we knew...we were 'in the chair'

Wendy was laughing so hysterically..almost crying...and I was a party to her hilarious situation...

I said okay too...stooooopid silly me....

he put this ridiculous green crap on our faces...I swear it felt like spackle... and told us how much better that side of our face looked after using HIS product..

we couldn't stop laughing and HE was so serious...oh Lordy..we couldn't contain ourselves....

moving on....the M.A.C. cosmetics store had some fun looks

and then..oh yea, not done yet...we found this eyeshadow kiosk with some crazy looks..and Im always game for letting anybody try anything for fun...

I mean...we were just having the laughs of our life...

we got Judy a makeover

and after she bought the store out we had more fun when she unloaded it all back at the time share

but now thinking from a crafty point of view we loved these ladies at Nordstrom who were ironing on rhinestones and air brushing on UGG boots

damn..I know what I'm gonna do when I get home !!!

and, I'll leave you with this vision...it isn't quite Halloween yet, but there's always one in every group..

tomorrow there will be more Vegas fun..

and maybe even more funky shoes

and cool furniture

till tomorrow folks....

a girlfriend weekend

and so..it was off to Vegas..

where the guys are prettier than the girls !!!

we have a time share here

so, I hooked up with my very special girlfriends Wendy & Judy, owners of WaxWorksWest.

None of us was here to teach....we met up to have a bundle of laughs together (no matter what we do or where we are)...and we came for the usual LV hoopla 

and maybe even the food

 

 

 

for the fabulous shopping...of course !

now boys and girls....this does not mean that I bought anything....no no..it means I JUST LOVE TO SHOP !!

Touch, try on, look at, make believe...

and

and just check out the funky heel

I did NOT buy them...ouch...hurt my feet but soooo fun to try on !!

BUT...tomorrow I'll tell you all about the 'facials' because they were hysterical!!

The rest of the Celebration

Usually I would post this to my other blog (on Judaism) called Brooks & Suze Schmooze...but It was so timely that I decided to put it here....

As some of you may know....we just finished the Jewish Holidays of Rosh Hashana (the Jewish New Year) and Yom Kippur (The Day of Atonement).

It takes one full year to read the whole Torah...beginning with Genesis and ending with Deuteronomy. We begin reading from Genesis, the beginning,  on a very joyous holiday which comes at the conclusion of Yom Kippur called

Simchat Torah.

On this holiday we completely unroll the Torah scrolls because we've reached the end.

 But, before we get ready to start again...at the beginning....we make it a celebration ! Everyone is up and out of their seats and joyously dancing and parading...

Here are some of the festivities from my synagogue and also from Jen and Jareds synagogue...Jens synagogue was given a donation of a magnificent 'Ilustrated Torah' from Israel..entirely hand painted. I'd never seen anything like it before. They come from artist Michal Meron

and...I understand a version of it is available in book form

there was also a big celebration to honor the release of young Gilad Shalit who was held prisoner by Hamas somewhere in the Gaza Strip for 5 years.

Jens' Rabbi reads "In The Beginning" from the Torah

and our Rabbi Brooks Susman reads from it too

and the kids marched around with their handmade Sukkahs (links provided for all these strange Hebrew words !!)

and then, the Torah scrolls were rewound to begin again next Simchat Torah

The kids were given little Torahs and a Hershey bar to sweeten their lives !!!

and a wonderful holiday was celebrated by all..

The HB Weekend

 

we met at Bogarts in Tinton Falls, NJ

the Party Animals do sushi lunch

it began with noisemakers

My birthday and Jackie's (R)  b'day are on the same day and we have done this lunch gig for several years.... with Amy, Cindy, Debbie, Patti, Terri and Bonnie (who was sadly sick this year & couldn't be there...boo hoo), the gals from Ranger !

we ARE the original party people !!!!

I made Jackie a cool glittery necklace as her b'day present because, truth be told, she is even more glittery than me !!

I made the necklace I was wearing too....

Debbie gave me one of the best cards ever

and my lifelong friend Gwen sent me a gorgeous handmade card

Then, in the evening the Lenster piled into his scoot about wheelchair (yes..he is still in the cast, no weight bearing allowed on the left foot) and we went off for MORE sushi

Tonight we celebrated a different event with a whole bunch of our Temple friends

we are another kooky group

We wheel the Lenster up to the table and he looks like a dwarf !!

we are all beyond hysterical laughing...

it definitely made for a really funny moment...

but...The Lenster got the last laugh...first at the dessert table..

We packed even more in, but I'll cover that tomorrow...

a wonderful artist

so..... I'm a little behind here since The Lenster ruptured the anterior tibialis on his left foot.

NO..he didn't do it on the motorcycle !!!

he had surgery this past Wednesday and is in a hard cast which will stay on another 3 weeks or so and then he'll be in one of those boot contraptions for another month or so. No weight bearing on that foot for a  l-o-n-g time.

He's mastering crutches & a scoot-around wheelchair !!!

He's a terrific patient....seriously...he's a joy!

what I wanted to share wth you involves a fabulous artist I met at ART Is....You this past weekend in CT.

PAM CARRIKER

Pam is a mixed media artist and I caught a glimpse of her teaching this most remarkable class. I HAD to stop to see what she was doing.

Even if you've NEVER drawn a face before she had the students in this class drawing the most FABULOUS faces imaginable. This is Margarida from Portugal....you'll remember her as the terrific lady who just sponsored the Art Paradise class I took with Michael deMeng.

I couldn't get over it !

Pam has written a wonderful book. I had the pleasure of reading it and I am telling you to rush right out and get yourself one. It's very inspiring and it really motivates you.

I am pretty hooked on my iPad 2...as if this was a surprise to anyone...& been playing with a program called BLENDER

it takes 2 of your photos and lets you blend them together to make unusual collages..just sharing a few

 

Well...gonna feed The Lenster now...I am off to a wedding ALONE !!!

 

Wax On

Whenever I'm asked to do a class on wax I'm always excited.

this class for ART Is.....YOU  was called "A Niche in Time"

and this was my class sample.

the canvas frames we used in class came from Ten Seconds Studio.

Everyone in class got a frame. We applied random shapes cut from  Wonder Tape Sheets  to a few areas on the canvas, sprinkled on UTEE powder and heated it with a heat gun.

that application created a nice texture.

Then, because the canvas came already pre-treated with an acrylic gesso (and wax doesn't like acrylic) we went over the remaining areas using an Encaustic gesso, made just for wax.

after it was dry we began brushing on the hot wax from the Ranger Melting Pot ! We used Ranger Beeswax

we used Hake brushes and the new stencils from Julie Fei-Fan Balzers new line, to wax over. I'm very partial to her triangle stencils.

and everyone allowed their individual creativity to shine through.

we embedded some chipboard shapes into the wax as well

and we used those FAAAAHBULOUS Pan Pastels

and played with a torch

and we poured wax into Rangers Mold n Pour

and glued in 3 dimensional objects

I adore the little Skippy Doodle angel that I placed in the middle. I bought her the day before at the vendor fair from Susan Parker owner of SkippyDoodleDesigns.

the metal leaves are something I found buried in all my 'stuff' at home. Glued them on using E-6000

who knew they'd come in so handy one day ! And, here you can see the UTEE texture next to the wax. If you want to learn more about the Melting Pot and see how the project pans work just click HERE.

Some of you know that The Lenster had a torn foot tendon operated on today...he's doing fine...yes..he's uncomfortable, taking his pain meds, elevating his foot (in a cast) and resting up...he's gonna be incapacitated for several weeks.....crutch pix to come !!!! Thanks to all who have asked about him !

Art Is...Artists

The weather was a glorious almost 90 today. How can that be? 

it's FALL !

No one understands this lovely phenom...but...it doesn't matter...it was a perfect day to take a drive up to Danbury, Connecticut for Art Is....YOU !!

It's positively incredible when all these artists hook up in one place to either teach or take a class.

Running into fellow New Jerseyites Aaron Nieradka & Jenny Heid

It's always a Holiday when you run into these two !!!

but, Let me begin with one of my favorite art talents...she is FAAAAHBULOUS and everyone should know about the incredible wor of....

ANDREA MATUS

She uses color in such a rich way. She has a beautiful eye for collage and imagry

and she makes books and art and beautiful things

her work is clean, interesting, unusual and very inspiring and I am definitely gonna own something of hers before this weekend is over !!!

Kecia is doing one of her always amazing fun workshops...this one involves fabric crowns, glitter, rhinestones and whatever else a Diva can think of !
