day 2 of Encaustic Monoprinting, was amazing.
who knew you could do such fantastic things with encaustic paint, a large heated surface and some stencils.
we worked with regular bought stencils (like Stencil Girls and Crafters Workshop) and ones made from Dura-Lar® and paper that David cut especially for class.
He cut these circles, identically, from the Dura-Lar® and also from lightweight paper and I used the left over little circles as well
I made my first print which looked like this
but it was much to bright for me.....so I toned it down using lots of white encaustic paint and spread it around...it almost looks like a photograph !!! I was so excited when I saw the "lets just try it and see what happens" results!!
here are some more wonderful moments from the day
***********
first we apply encaustic wax (referred to as paint) to the heated surface.
Then place the stencil over the paint
and cover with newsprint.
Rub over the newsprint using a baren (def:The baren is a disk like device with a flat bottom and on the reverse side, a knotted handle. Paper is placed on an inked block and the baren is used to burnish (firmly rub) the back of a sheet of paper to pick up ink from a wood or linoleum cut.)
this will place paint on the stencil and then that stencil is used to make the actual waxed print
some of the lacy Japanese papers make great stencils too.
you will love visiting WAX WORKS WEST and taking their classes
and their grounds are equally as wonderful !

Tonight we went to see Life of Pi.....it was a visually magnificent movie. Try to see it.

and...be sure to visit my ESTY site....some fun inexpensive necklaces on there.
What great fun!!! xxx
