Jody Alexander is an artist extraordinaire! She is a bookbinder, papermaker, librarian and teacher who lives and works in Santa Cruz, California.
She currently has a solo exhibit (installation) at Cabrillo Art Gallery (part of Cabrillo College) in Aptos, CA. called:
The Lenster and I bought this set of her books....they will get mailed to us when the exhibit ends.
Jody makes paper, in the Eastern-style, and uses her papers to bind books with exposed sewing on the spine in a number of historical and modern binding styles. She combines these books with found objects, wooden boxes and drawers, metal, bones, etc. to create sculptural works.
Her pieces celebrate collecting, storytelling, and odd characters. She also likes to rescue books in distress and give them new life as rebound books, scrolls and sculptural pieces
She has recently opened Wishi Washi Studio - her own teaching space at the Tannery Art Center in Santa Cruz, California.
If you live in the area you MUST get over to see it. It's really remarkable that any one person could produce such an amazing body of work.
Amazing works of ART. TFS.
