Charlie's a GIRL
GirlCharlie !!
Charlie is also a fantastic encaustic wax artist.
......an interactive visual artist who paints wax on glass to create a layering effect heightened by changes in light. If you clicked on her name at the beginning of the blog you can see videos of what she has done and ......prepare to be visually amazed.
I got to take a class with her recently at my FAVORITE place in northern California
Charlie was teaching us how to paint faces with WAX using the concept of shadows, lights, darks...etc.
I can't paint a freakin straight line without a ruler, but look..
I will admit....it certainly helps if you can draw because the classmates that could did far better....but, you don't have to know how.
and one of the books she recommends
The WAX WORKS studio is set up so amazingly....you don't have to bring a thing...just yourself and an open attitude. Everything is provided for you and in the safest environment possible.
Charlie provided us with lots of magazine imagry which she'd also copied into "Adobe Illustrator" to show us the lights, darks, mid tones, 3 color, 5 color and so on, so we could understand the shading.
and tracing various stages helped in the beginning process.
After that she showed...in a detailed step by step demo.... how to construct the face using only the concepts of tones.
and how to shade
Now remember...we're using WAX...no traditional paint involved
some of the students did a beautiful job
NONE OF THIS WAS DONE WITH TRACING....it is all done by knowing where to put the tonal qualities
so...next time Miss Charlie is in town....hop on over
